More and more furniture importers, retail chains, and office solution providers are moving beyond white-label reselling toward building their own branded product lines. If you're considering launching a private-label office chair collection — or need customized seating solutions for a specific project — this guide will walk you through exactly how OEM and ODM manufacturing works at Great Furniture, and what you need to prepare to get started.
OEM vs. ODM: What's the Difference?
These terms are often used interchangeably, but they represent two distinct service models:
- OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) — You provide the design, specifications, and branding. We manufacture exactly to your drawings. This model suits buyers with an in-house design team or existing product blueprints.
- ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) — You select from our existing designs and models, then customize them with your branding, colorways, materials, or minor structural modifications. This is the faster, lower-cost path for buyers launching a new product line without an internal design function.
Most of our B2B partners start with ODM — selecting a proven base model from our catalog and adding their brand identity — then graduate to OEM as their product line matures and they develop proprietary designs.

The OEM/ODM Process: Step by Step
Step 1 — Initial Inquiry & Requirements Brief (Day 1–3)
Share your target specifications, estimated annual volume, destination market, and any branding requirements. Our team will confirm feasibility and provide a preliminary price range within 48 hours.
Step 2 — Sample Development (Day 4–20)
For ODM orders, we modify an existing model to match your specifications. For OEM orders, our engineering team works from your technical drawings. A pre-production sample is shipped for your approval. Most ODM samples are ready in 10–15 working days; OEM samples take 20–30 working days depending on complexity.
Step 3 — Sample Confirmation & Price Finalization (Day 21–28)
Once you approve the sample (with or without modifications), we issue a formal quotation with exact per-unit pricing based on your committed MOQ. We then finalize material specs, packaging design, and production schedule.
Step 4 — Production (Day 29–55)
Standard production lead time is 25–35 days after deposit receipt. You receive weekly production updates and can request mid-production photos or a third-party inspection at any stage.
Step 5 — QC, Packaging & Shipment (Day 56–65)
Every batch undergoes final QC inspection. We prepare full export documentation (commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, test reports), arrange container loading, and send you the B/L and tracking details.
Minimum Order Quantities (MOQ)
| Service Type | MOQ | Sample Cost |
|---|---|---|
| ODM (existing model, custom color/logo) | 100 pcs/model | Sample cost + shipping |
| ODM (structural modification) | 200 pcs/model | Sample cost + tooling fee (if new mold) |
| OEM (fully custom design) | 300 pcs/model | Engineering + tooling fee |
| Custom packaging only | 50 pcs/model | Design fee (often waived for repeat buyers) |
For smaller test orders below our standard MOQ, we offer a mixed-model container program — allowing buyers to combine multiple models from our existing catalog to fill a 20ft or 40ft container without hitting per-model MOQs.
